Think you practice a pretty healthy lifestyle? You might want to think again. Some of the trivial things you do everyday are putting you in contact with millions of germs. While it is impossible to avoid doing some of these daily activities, here are 11 reasons why you should wash you hands well and often.
Handle Money
One of the grossest things you will touch all day is money. Yes, really. If you think of where it has been and how many hands it has touched, it’s really not that surprising. Research has shown that a quarter usually contains more germs than a toilet seat. Don’t refuse to touch money, and don’t try to put your bills through the wash, but try to wash your hands more.
Use a Card Reader
Well if money is germy, just use your card. No, sorry, the card reader is a germ’s favorite vacation spot, since they are very rarely cleaned. As soon as you key in your pin you might want to reach for some hand sanitizer.
Drink From a Can
Think about a can of Coke and the journey it has to take to get in your hands. From the factory, to the trucks, to the store, your can has gone through a lot before it gets to you. To avoid nasty can germs, simply drink from a straw. Problem solved.
Follow the Five-Second Rule
Sorry germs don’t play fair. They do not follow the five-second rule. True, there are fewer germs on a piece of food that was on the ground for five seconds, instead of ten, but there is still a boatload of germs.
Use Your Phone
When was the last time you cleaned your case or wiped down the screen? Yeah, it’s probably been a while. Your phone goes everywhere you do and attracts an insane about of bacteria and germs. Go grab an antibacterial wipe, like right now.
Love On Your Pets
Dogs and cats are fabulous to have around, but that doesn’t mean they are the cleanest of animals. Dogs are known as butt lovers and cats aren’t much better. If you own a furry friend try to give them a bath once a week.
Brush Your Teeth
Is your toothbrush uncovered? If so, you should throw it out and grab a new one. It’s in the same room as the toilet. Something as simple as putting your toothbrush in a plastic bag could save you a few sick days.
Wear a Bra for Too Long
Admit it, you are guilty of hanging on to your bra a little too long. Boob sweat is a real issue and it can collect in the fabric and stick around or a while. Not only will it start to smell, but it can also cause skin rashes.
Use Your Computer
Like your phone, you use your computer a lot and probably rarely think about cleaning it. It’s a good idea to invest in some antibacterial wipes to get rid of all those pesky built up germs.
Ride an Escalator
So you know how escalator handrails always seem a little sticky? Gross. It may be safe to hold the handrails while riding an escalator, but it’s also a pretty good way to come in contact with millions on germs.
Fuel Up Your Car
One of the grossest things you touch all day is the gas pump. Whether people sweat more over the price of gas or because it’s usually the first stop after the truck-stop bathroom, you should have a bottle of hand sanitizer at the ready.
