A bouquet here, some chocolates there... Most people have nothing on the romantic gestures these people made!
Requesting A “Promotion”
“I’ve been dating my boyfriend for almost three years now. We recently decided to get engaged. But before a formal decision could be taken, my boyfriend wrote my father a letter: ‘Dear Sir, As you’re aware, I have been employed in an unofficial capacity with Das and Co. as Boyfriend since the 8th of December, 2010. During these 3 years I have gained a thorough understanding of the organization, and the role assigned to me in particular. I have undergone rigorous training in varied fields like Shopping; Mood Swings; preferred TV series, movies and music; What I May and May Not Wear; and How my Facial Hair must be arranged, to name a few. Working in this department has been, and continues to be, an immensely pleasurable experience. I believe that the adulation and awards I have received over the years suggest that the department has had a similar experience. I strongly believe that with my enhanced theoretical and practical knowledge, I am now ready for a promotion. I hereby request you to consider my candidature for the position of Fiancee. The department has already made an unofficial offer in that direction. I hope you will give the matter due consideration and accept my application. Kindly find my CV attached with this mail. I promise to continue performing to the best of my ability and meet the expectations the organization has come to expect of me. I am confident that with your support and guidance, I shall continue to deliver good performance day after day, month after month, year after year. Yours sincerely, Bharat Jakati.’ Yeah, his resume was attached.” (source)
Promotion Granted
“And for those of you who are wondering what my father thought of this, here is what he wrote in response to my boyfriend’s letter: ‘Dear Sri Jakati. Das & Co is in receipt of your application sent via email dated 1/11/2013. The matter is under active consideration and will be communicated to you shortly after due processes and approval from appropriate authority. In the meanwhile you are advised to continue to gather more experience and discharge your duties to the best of your ability. This may be treated as an in principle approval of your application till further orders. It is also understood the Directors of the company (i.e. my mother, my sister and I) are inclined to give one more promotion at the earliest. The 51 percent shareholder and the MD of the company (i.e. my mother) is too keen on this. However, the youngest Director of the Company (i.e. my sister) has some reservations regarding the consequential change in status of Ankita Das (i.e. me) after your next promotion. Yours sincerely, Siddhanta Das. Chairman. PS: Advisory note of Chairman: It is critically important for you to get more acquainted with the issues of mood swings, shopping, TV serials etc. of all the female directors of the company. You may also focus more on your skills as a singer. By this you could influence all the decisions of the MD in your favour.'” (source)
Toddmas
“My wife invented a week long holiday for me. Knowing that my late December birthday also got me short shrift on both presents and parties, she decided to make up for lost time and invented ‘Toddmas.’ Much like Hanukkah or the Twelve Days of Christmas, this involves a smaller gift each day, from Christmas to New Year’s Eve. Either Christmas itself or my birthday will have a larger gift, but getting a daily opening of some exotic cookware or kitchen tool is pretty fun (I cook). Pretty sweet of her, especially since she was raised in a family that did very little gift giving.” (source)
Sweet Generosity
“This might sound like a very silly answer, but here goes. Whenever we eat out, he picks out all the cheese from any of his dishes and puts it on my plate. And when he does it, he does not have even a slight smile on his face or a lovey-dovey look. All his concentration is on the food. If we are in a group, he just keeps talking or does whatever he is doing. It is more like something that he does subconsciously. The first time he learnt I loved cheese in any form was probably 8 years ago when we first ate out somewhere. Since then, he has been constantly doing this, so much that it is now a habit. It makes me feel really warm inside. So yeah, lifetime cheese supply over diamonds on anniversary, any day!” (source)
Clutch And Thoughtful
“After I delivered our son, my husband said he was going to let me rest in the hospital room for a while (the bigger, fancier maternity suite he’d paid extra for me to be placed in). I was grateful for the sleep, having spent 33 hours in labor. When I awoke, he was there with my favorite carry-out order from Outback Steakhouse and a sapphire moon and star necklace I’d offhandedly said I liked several weeks earlier. That was epic.” (source)
A Surprise Detour
“A couple of years ago, I was presenting at an international conference in Ireland. The schedule was very demanding, and I was extremely stressed because it was my first time. We planned a two day trip with a rental car to go around Ireland and relax, but it made things more stressful because we wanted to visit too many places, and all the driving and heavy drinking took its toll. So on the trip home, I was mentally and physically exhausted. She bought the train tickets at the airport and shoved me on the train. I was groggy and fell asleep, expecting to wake up in 2 hours when the train gets to our city. I woke up 4 hours later and the train was still moving through a flat landscape–the total opposite of the mountainous or hilly southwest Germany. I recognized it as northern Germany. Turns out she had bought tickets to take us to her home area to have a vacation staying with her parents, in a beautifully idyllic, rural place with a forest and large lake. Best antidote possible.” (source)
The Soundtrack Of Love
“We had a long-distance acquaintanceship. We spoke on the phone and emailed for months. We really liked each other, it seemed. Fast forward around a year, we meet for the first time, and I asked her to be my girlfriend that same day. She said yes. As unusual and far-fetched as it may seem, we began to feel something related to love prior to meeting in person for the first time. I tried to be as creative and romantic as possible when it came to ‘popping the question,’ so needless to say that rose pedals, blind-fold, teddy bear, candies, our own personal photographer, along with a romantic dinner for two, were all working in symphony to make this moment special. Some days after becoming ‘official’ we’re hanging out at my parent’s house and she asks to go outside. As we’re walking outside, she asks to go to my car. My car? Why? She smiles and insists. We sit down and close the doors and she hands me this huge envelope. I open it and find what looks like a hand-made poem, scroll type of thing. She hand embroidered one of the ends of the collection of four or five long pages, so indeed the pages flowed like a scroll. I read it. It was beautiful. It was about our love, about me, about how the distance between us has only served to bring us closer together in spirit. I near shed a tear. I still wondered why we had to come to the car to read this, but oh well. We embraced, I was beaming from ear to ear, and then she gives me something else. She tells me to play the CD. A melodic guitar tune envelopes the air, it sounds beautiful, I like the singer’s voice, the rhythm was great, romantic, sensual, and all of a sudden, a minute or so into the song, I looked at her with a puzzled look and said, ‘Is this the poem?’ I was speechless. This lovely girl arranged the recording of a song about me and our love, in a professional recording studio, with a professional singer/guitar player to collaborate with her. Wow.” (source)
A Nice Night In
“I came home from work late one Friday night to find my backyard set up like a personal outdoor movie theater; sheet/sail strung up between the trees; speakers perched in the tree limbs; projector set behind the lounge chairs; drinks/popcorn in buckets; blankets on the chairs to snuggle under. A light breeze, a halo of stars and city lights – and a little bit of safe heaven by the flicker of the stuff that dreams are made of. Good stuff.” (source)
Dessert Sharing
“Just 15 days into knowing each other only through phone calls, we knew we had a connection. He never judged me because of my disability, in fact he told me that it was the main reason why he swiped right because he wanted to know more about the ‘partially blind’ part in my bio. We used to chat almost all day. One day, the conversation went like this: He: ‘So,where would you like to go on our first date?’ Me: ‘It’s your city, pick a place.’ He: ‘Okay. There’s this great place where you get the most amazing apple pies, do you like apple pie?’ Me: ‘I love sweets. But, I create a lot of mess while eating, so if you’re not going to be embarrassed by that then yeah, take me out.’ He: ‘As long as you don’t pour the cup of coffee on me I’m okay with anything.’
Day of the date we enter the cafe and it smells like heaven in there! He: ‘I’m ordering the apple pie, you?’ Me: ‘I would like to try the Austrian chocolate mudpie. After some time our pies are in front of us, as soon as I dig the fork in my mudpie he notices my struggle. He: ‘Here, let me help you with that.’ He feeds me a BIG piece, half of it is in my mouth, half on the table. I tell him I will eat on my own but before I could even think of going for another piece, the lights go out! He: ‘Well, there’s no option left but for me to feed you, is there?’ Me: ‘Well, okay but smaller bites please!’ After every bite he asked me, ‘Is this one okay,’ ‘should I take even smaller pieces?’ He was so cute and adorable! After a few bites the whole situation was so natural for us, I kept talking and he kept alternating between eating and feeding me. I’m mostly very confident in whatever I do with my partial vision, but there are some things that still make me nervous. But with him it was comfortable, it was like routine. Feeding me the most delicious chocolate mudpie on our first date was the most romantic thing that someone has ever done for me!” (source)

The Rare Gift
“In my final semester of college, I met this really charming guy and we started dating. Before I continue, let me tell you that, I am a very passionate Bihu dancer. In India there is a special kind of orchid called Kopou Ful. This is a rare flower and is only found in some rural areas. Back to the story, I was preparing to go for a group Bihu competition. My guy had playfully said that for this dance, he wants me to wear this flower. I told him that I can’t do that because since it was a group performance we all had to dress alike. And considering where we lived, the chances of getting even two were really rare. On the day of the performance, (the competition was 3 or 4 hours’ drive from my college) he surprised me! Not just by being there, but also with 10 Kopou ful. I felt very touched because not only did he understand the emotion I had with Bihu, but had taken so much trouble into finding 10 of the rare flowers, while getting even 1 is a big trouble. For me, this is love.” (source)
The Gift Of Love
“I’m more animal than man so it is hard for anyone to impress me with regular tokens of romance. For instance, I was in a bad mood for an entire surprise birthday party my wife threw on my behalf–for no reason other than I felt weird. I am also not made happy like others are by typical gifts or romantic gestures. I am a difficult person to make feel loved because I am wary to the tricks people play with each other. I need biological confirmation, even for romance. When I saw what happened to her body during pregnancy and then during labor and delivery, my heart grew very fond of her. She was mine as were the children she produced. Romance is for the cute girl you are crushing on, I needed more and watching my wife have my kids did the trick. She delivered, literally.” (source)
A Love Of Chicken
“Ours is an arranged marriage. We met on matrimony site and talked for a while before going forward. I was in the U.S. at that time and he was in India. So we started doing Skype chats. It continued for 4 months. Then in August I was scheduled to return to India. My flight arrived at 2:30 a.m. at Mumbai airport. As I came out I saw him standing there waiting for me. No flowers in his hand but as soon as I reached him he took my luggage and handed me a chicken burger, saying you must be craving for Indian food. It made me smile as he is vegetarian and I am a hardcore chicken fan. That’s the first time we met and that was the first time I thought I should marry him. He’s not someone who could give a lot of surprises but he keeps amusing me with these small gestures like cooking for me, getting me chicken packed whenever he can and many more. He even got me flowers once. We got married this January.” (source)
